Sanilac Co. Michigan
Douglass ks - 3/25/2025 09:12

All on during the winter 1 trip.

Can someone explain the logic to making 2 trips for putting on nitrogen. Make first trip in Dec then again early March. Wheat has barely grown any since first app. Just as well put it all on the first trip when it is less likely to volatilize.

Well, Kansas isn't Michigan, but probably the biggest benefit up here in the the cold, wet North is the opportunity to hedge your bet with your nitrogen dollars. Nothing worse than putting it all down at green up, just to see a big rain event flush it into the Lakes, Mississippi, etc. and needing to put it down again. Too, timing application to growth stage should boost yield and decrease lodging risk.
