The logic is that nitrogen takes time and rainfall to move through the soil. Also, the plant needs nitrogen at different times. So, if you put it all on in December, the plant will use up the majority of the nitrogen at green up and early spring, putting it into the straw and not the grain. I try to run some light nitrogen in the fall if moisture is present to promote fall tillering, then a second shot over winter/ early spring to get the bulk of it. Will foliar feed with fungicide at flagleaf.
