The biggest challenge or question is would the transmission be able to function even in a manual mode as a basic power shift if it saw no engine?

A related conundrum is why didn't Deere ever take the 50-series powershift and put it in a 50-70 series 4WD tractor. That is one of my dream reengineering projects that will never get done. Suppose it was back in the day of put the QuadRange in a gear and use the two-speed for headlands or tough spot plowing was good enough. Not many farmers back then needed a 4WD with powershift on a grain cart.

There is a father and son team out of Mora Minnesota that are electrical engineers and the circuit board for the power shift control in their Steiger went bad so they just made a new one. It worked good but they thought they could do better so they made a second one that had tunability to it. So they could fine-tune the shifts. Works pretty slick

Yeah I have dreamed of that as well, on how to put the 15-speed into the soundguard four-wheel drive.

For the money a guy can spend on keeping some of these John Deere powered tractors going. It would be a whole lot cheaper just to switch colors versus re-engineering?! The neighbor has three 12.5 l engines on his farm and the bottom end has treated him very well but between heads and fuel systems he has spent a lot of time and money keeping them engines going. There's a couple more in the area and same story. Bottom end never causes problems between camshafts, heads and the fuel system. They can cost a lot of money.
