Getting a different engine to talk to a different machine can be a big deal but most of the functions will work if the modern engine controller has industry standard J1939 communication protocol designed to work in third-party applications such as gensets, rock crushers, marine, oil & gas, etc. The caveat is it sometimes requires a smart young engineer that is savvy with CANbus to figure out why it's not working the first time one plugs it in when it should be working.
