We use the irrigated pasture a little differently. Take one cutting of hay and then stockpile the grass to turn out with fall calvers late Aug.- early Sept. Matches the best feed (regrowth) with calving and breeding. A dense stockpile will give you green grass into January a lot of years. If it gets snowed under it will still be there come spring. The quality of feed is better than any hay I've ever put up. I used to worry about wasted feed, but it will look like it was mowed if you stay on too long and it's not because they are hungry. I do spread manure about every third year but that's because I already have it.
