Saronville NE | Rough numbers. 2.5 HD to acre. Gaining 1.75. Very doable. 2 is not hard to be accomplished. So $100 an acre for seed and 50 lbs of N. $350 rent. So $450. If you only do 1.75 for 210 days that's $459 fir 210 days. That is very doable if do a whole quarter with our irrigation. If gain 2 lbs that's over $529. So $75 profit. Let alone the cog is less then in feedlot.
What most seem to forget you have no expenses. No crop insurance. No machinery expense, no high dollars seed, chem or fertilizer. It would work better than you think.
Is a guy not far from me running 500 cows on 4 irrigated quarters of feed. He grazes 9 months out if the year on feed. Says if was row crop farming he'd be broke. Only has a tractor a notill drill and a gator. No N at all says if you are on top of it and move miberal and salt couple times a day. The manure gets scattered to self fertilze. Waters very little also. More like 3 passes a yr instead of 8-10 with corn.
Things will work if guy gets creative. | |
