Subject: Annual rye toxicity in ground? House yard

Missouri

I’ve planted annual rye grass in yard up around house last two years, dies off early July, then planted tall turf type fescue in fall. Haven’t had any luck establishing fescue. Would rye have a toxicity in establishing fescue? Or just moisture and weather issues establishing?
