Kinze did it, and made it work. I have no idea what Kinze kits cost back in the day, whether it was double what fixing it the same old way would cost. Those Deere engines are so expensive, that I'd think the numbers would work. Looks like a drop in 13.5 is 102,500 USD. What is a new Cummins X15? I'd surely think it could be made to work. I think there are a number of things that retrofit kits could be made to work, whether engine, or transmission, but absolutely, someone would have to make the investment with hopes that a market is there. If somebody made a kit that worked, I don't know that it would hurt resale. I think I'd be hesitant to buy a combine, that from what you here, may well need a 100K engine. Granted you don't need to buy a 100K engine, but often it's more attractive than the alternatives.
