No need to give someone fodder to cuase trouble.
I would follow his program and pay my half if it is on shares. Traits take energy to express so theoretically the less traits the more yield.
Of course, if you need the trait, that is different.
If cash rent I have had good luck just planting roundup corn, even with corn on corn. No insecticide.
With refuge in a bag, one always has some damage as we have to keep some of those little critters alive.
