East Central, Nebraska | i typically strip before i plant corn, then when i go to soybeans i either move off the row 6 inches or go at an angle, then come back the third year and go back on the same strip from the first year.
everyone's soils and conditions differ but i cant see going down the middle of the row i have been packing down all year on my clay soils.. some of the ground i strip every year, i just move off 6 on the side, then back to the same strip on year 3. in my soils it seems like that strip area stays so mellow and the area i drive is not ideal for growing anything.
some of the acres we sell to ta local dairy that is corn on corn we just move off the row a couple inches then back on year three. for whatever reason its pretty easy to deal with. not sure if its the rapid decomposition due to now residue left or the higher plant population doesn't grow as large of a root ball. we sometimes see similar conditions on dryland coming out of a dry year.
