| Our son played D1 college baseball. Our experience was that all the camps and tryouts are just money grabs and very few players are "discovered" and signed that way. The way you get to a college team is to play summer ball with an organization that has connections to the college coaches. Two examples to illustrate: I saw a player go 4 for 5 at a camp with 3 home runs along with solid defensive skills and he didn't get a second look. The coach said "we already have a first baseman that can do that". The second example is the coach at the school my son ended up at had never seen one of the pitchers he signed. He signed him based strictly on the recommendations of a summer coach in his network. The recommendation of his summer coach is also how my son got a tryout and ultimately the scholarship. | |
