I’ve always had an interest in the F-4. I was fortunate enough to see one of the last operational Phantoms in US inventory close up around 2004-5 when I was at Volk Field ANGB. The last time it left the base I was able to watch it do a full afterburner takeoff from the edge of the ramp only 100 yards away. Those J-79s made it an experience that was felt more than was seen.
