East Central SD | Well guy, for those of you keeping track, it's been 3 years since my last cancer related surgery, and over 5 years since I first started showing symptoms. I just had a clean CT and negative blood test at Mayo yesterday.
February marked 9 years since Amy had her stroke, and is still doing well. We made our annual visit to all of her Dr's and therapists with homemade cookies again this year, and they still remember her! She has started working part time at a pharmacy and loves it.. Substitute teaching has started losing it's shine. She's still the strong one, and the one I depend on the most.
Our oldest boy is 16, looking forward to planting his 3rd crop this spring, and has been excelling in recent Ag Mechanics competitions in FFA. He's over 6' tall, and the best help I could ever ask for.
Our youngest boy is 13, active in basketball and theater, and looking forward to golf season. He's always looking for work so he can save money for a Mustang.
It's strange looking back and thinking about the events that affect your life that you never saw coming. Despite our health challenges, and the long-term side effects, this has to be my favorite time of my life. The boys are really coming into their own, and it's a privilege to watch them grow up and excel. While things might be less than perfect in the farming economy, I've been at it for over 25 years, and it seems that the endless grind of the early years have subsided to an extent. Stepping back and watching your son start to do research and introduce new ideas into the farm is one of the best things there is. We discuss future plans almost daily, and it's so much fun to see how they're wired. I'm confident that they'll both succeed in whatever they pursue.
Take care guys. Thanks for all of the thoughts over the years. Best of luck to all of you this spring- don't forget to enjoy the simple things as we all get busy.
