NW Iowa | Two for me and one for my wife. A deer knocked a rear view mirror off the car for my wife. She mentioned swerving around some deer but she missed them. Ya! passenger mirror was missing when I got in the car. To her defense she was coming home from staying overnight in the room with her mother who was in her last days of fighting cancer so she was plenty stressed.
Second time I was in a truck at night pulling a combine trailer with the outriggers out. It was in South Dakota in the Pierre SD area about 4:00 in the morning. Came over a hill and two deer were in my lane. I split the difference between the two. The deer in the center of the road got away, the deer by the shoulder caught the front of the right outrigger on the trailer. I felt a very light bump, my passenger did not feel it. When we got to our destination there was deer hair sticking out of every crevice in the outrigger the whole length of the 53 foot trailer. on the return trip back that same way a few hours later when we came to the scene where the deer was hit there was an empty hide at the end of a blood trail. This is probably the only time I will win with a deer hit for the rest of my life.
Third time I wasn't paying attention at about dusk when a deer came walking out of the ditch on my left side. I hit the brakes but it nailed the right headlight in the van. It was such a small bump I thought there might not have been damage but when I looked in the mirror I saw plastic tumbling down the road behind me. All three of these happened in the open prairie with no trees within a half mile. | |
