Wisconsin | Check out the youtube channel, Mn brick silos, or something like that. I'd suspect it had as much to do with status symbols as it did with climate. That area of Mn and Ia that had the bigger graineries also had bigger, showier corn cribs because it had cob corn and grain production on a larger and more profitable scale for a longer time at the time before bins and wet storage silos took over.
