Gettysburg, PA | Hey Lowell, I am not a farmer. I work at the county Conservation District, but I think I can provide a little incite for you. The National Park Service has been doing deer management culling for about a dozen years now on the 6,000 acres they own. It is done by Park Service personnel (maybe some of the shooters are also PA Game Commission employees but I am not sure) at night. They have done a pretty good job at culling the herd to something way more "natural" for the habitat and land size. There are still parts of the park where deer pressure makes growing corn difficult and even soybeans. Those farmers have taken to growing milo. |
