Subject: RE: Case IH 1083 vs 3408

Central Illinois - west of Peoria
Same style of knife - but different part number
We went from running 1083’s for years to a 3408 last year.
The 3408 seems more sensitive to knife condition than the 1000 series , has a larger dia auger , I had one row not feeding well and replaced the knives and it was night and day better . We bought it on an auction and it was in real nice shape and didn’t give much for it - way less than a 1/3 the cost of a used drago or geringhof . We have since bought the Calmer deck plates and will put all new factory knives on the rolls before this fall . Will it pick corn in the rain - probably not but we ran nearly a 1000 acres through it with no major issues.
Running on a 7130 combine
