 East of Broken Bow | I try to put a tamer cow with the heifers every year, both yearlings and 2 year olds to calve if I can. It exposes them to a newborn (which is good, otherwise every one will have to come and sniff the first couple calves that are born). In addition, if your older cow is cube broke, it is real easy to move the bunch from here to there if the cow will follow you, as the younger ones tend to follow the older cows. If they don't follow real well, dump some cubes on the ground and let the old cow munch on them, and shoo the heifers to her, they are easy to shoo towards an old cow standing at a gate, not as easy to soo towards a gate they've never seen open before. | |
