SW MN | We have to put the tariffs in context. Unless they are permanent, and codified by law, the next administration (or this one even), whoever it may be, can easily do away with them. What business do you know that would invest millions of dollars, possibly billions, to build out manufacturing, mines, or relocating back to the USA when in an instant moment they go away.
The time frame for building any new type of mine for potash would take years to complete. Even if you threw out any environmental regulation from a state or national level (not going to happen) it would probably take 2 years to become functional and operational.
Let's be completely honest with ourselves here. The tariffs and talk about bringing jobs/industry back is just foo, foo fairy dust that people lap up like a sheep to praise their elected leader. It is NOT going to happen as it is currently structured. Heck, Trump has waffled on tariffs in his first 52 days so much it makes a guy's head spin. You think any executive in their right mind is going to be going to their BOD and saying "yeah we have stable leadership, tariffs are here to stay, and we should spend $$ to bring it back".
It is not going to happen unless Congress codifies it into law. And that won't happen. | |
