Don’t think there is any explaining away. Start with the premise that we always want to overlap not skip.

I looked awhile at the pics. First thought was something similar to a jd combine with power cast tailboard. Sometimes trying to shove light trash on big headers you end up with heavy streaks on the outer edges. Further review, looking at outsides of field and the first pics north edge, you don’t see that type of pattern. It’s only on true back and forth passes.
I would say it looks like a wider spread pattern than the application width for driving and rate. Without putting a measurement tool on the image, I would say spread pattern was throwing close to 80’ if what OP said was supposed to be a 70’.
What does that do. Essentially machine is dropping,on spinners, 70’ worth of product and spinners are throwing closer to 80’. Easy math if spread pattern is actually 77’ on what is supposed to be 70’, across the entire width is a 10% reduction. On overlap it essentially is the 90% of rate but doubled, making it 180% of desired rate in the 7’ of overlap.
We quit doing complete fertilizer analysis dry off spinner spreaders in the 90’s because pattern was bad.
