| Anyone ever experience a mycoplasma outbreak in young beef calves during calving season?
I've been calving since early February and had a two week old calf show a single ear droop and low fever last Friday (no respiratory symptoms). Since then, have had a total of 5 with the same symptoms. I have been treating with Draxxin as soon as I notice something is off, and they seem to be responding. But the contagiousness and difficulty of treatment as my vet described, has me terrified.
I am very space/pasture limited so separating every sick pair from healthy is not feasible, and at this point I would assume that they've all already been exposed.
I am curious to hear others experiences. Severity of outbreak & lasting symptoms? How long can an outbreak like this last? Is this something that I will be dealing with all summer as I read that they can shed the bacteria for months even years after infection?
