Subject: RE: Bull buying

Do you know if it is identical or fraternal? An identical twin is caused by the embryo splitting and is mostly random. It may be heritable to a very small degree but nothing to certainly bank on.

A fraternal twin is caused by hyperovulation and may be heritable to certain extent.

In the interest of disclosure I may be more sympathetic than most as I’m an identical twin. My wife has fraternal twins in her family but both our kids are singles.

A friend of mine is a fraternal twin and she had a set of fraternal twins as well.

I have some cows that have multiple twin births in their life. I’ve not kept track whether their daughters have higher percentage of twins also but anecdotally can’t say I’ve noticed a real trend.

Here it is way down the list of my selection criteria for bulls.
