For varmints from prairie dogs to deer a 223 is pretty decent. The other calibers are hand gun calibers and not really useful on prey past 100 to 150 yards.
A 22 is as effective as the hand gun rounds on coyotes and smaller.
If I could only have 3 rifles it would be 22 mag, 223, and 308 the later 2 chambered in nato.
If only one it would be the 308/7.62
