If you're charge pump problem is the hex shaft is rounded off, just fix it where it sets.
This would definitely be the first place I'd be looking. Unpin the top link, remove the 4 bolts attaching the top link bracket, with a 1-1/4" socket, carefully remove the thin-head plug from the rear of the differential housing and see if there's any way you can pull out the hex shaft. If the shaft is damaged, you may have to gingerly attach a vise grip to the shaft and use a slide hammer to remove it. If the shaft is twisted into a helix, which you won't be able to see, the pump is definitely damaged and the shaft won't come out without splitting the tractor at the clutch. But yes, I have seen the shaft wear at the point where it runs in the pump, and eventually will round off, which usually can be fixed in the field. I've welded up the corners, carefully ground them back to hex shape, and reinstalled the shaft. The shaft almost always wears more than the pump gear.
As to towing it, I will reiterate what has already been shared - the range shifter MUST be between C and D in the TOW position. As long as that's in place, you should be good to go. |
