i honestly don't remember for sure. maybe the switches were spring loaded.
when you toggle to off, they go to the hold position. then flip on to plant?
it's been years, i don't recall the difference in price. just remember, if you
have the whole side shut off, the outside 3 won't plant until you turn the inside
back on too. the inside will kill the air to the whole side.
