Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | Referring to Matt: Yes, this can be done with the AutoSwath and Multi-product unlocks. You would need both for a couple of reasons: 1) multi-product because you wish to work with seed and liquid at the same time (you would need multi-product for split-planter even if you didn't want to work with the liquid). 2) Autoswath to turn the liquid sections ON/OFF properly and also the Tru-count clutches.
You will need the Seed Command module and the Direct Command liquid modules (Auxiliary Input module and Liqud Control Module) with the CAN tee's etc. to wire this altogether.
In the application configuration area of the Insight you would set up information concerning the planter's liquid portions (products, etc.) In the planter configuration area you would set up information concerning the planter's seed information (varieties, width etc.) In the planter configuration area you then create a Master configuration that pulls all this information together.
For the seed command portion to work you will need the clutches etc to control the seed shut off. For the liquid section you would need a control valve (butterfly type generally), flowmeter and boom section valves. The sections for the seed and the fertilizer do not have to be the same size although they could be. Raven control valves and flowmeters work well with D.C. This all can be done but requires a fair amount of hardware. If you have Direct Command already you may have some components that can be used on the planter.
For example, we have a situation where a 24 row planter is split into 8 - 3 row sections for seed command but 4 - 6 row sections for liquid. The planter could have been setup into 8-3 sections for the liquid also but this would require a total of 8 boom shut off valves.
We have not yet received the actual Seed Command modules although I have seen them. I believe that the first orders are being processed at this time.
The seed command module will be mounted on the planter for the majority of our installs. The Auxiliary module will be mounted in the tractor (this is the module that connects to a switchbox). The liquid control module (when used) will generally be mounted on the planter next to the Seed Command module.
A CAN/Power extension is needed to connect the tractor to the planter's modules and implement switch. I need to make another one of these this morning for a 36-30 planter which is getting Seed command. This extension on this one is about 65' long.
As far as timing for the Seed Command Shut OFF/ON and the liquid Shut OFF/ON. there are two similar setup screens in the Insight that allow the timing to be set independently. Thus the lead time for the Seed ON could be different than the liquid.
Regarding Ironhorses's question about section shut off utilizing Deere's switches rather than Tru-count's individual air clutches: it is my understanding that a harness is available to do this. This has the advantage of not needing to buy or install the individual clutches but has the disadvantage of more "coarse" shutoff control since each section would be wider than would normally be done with individual clutches.
Ag Leader recommends a minimum size of 3 row sections. With a smaller planter it would be possible to have smaller sections but this might be counterproductive as an outside section might get shut off inappropriately due to GPS or tractor drift. This is also another reason that a 5 Hz or better GPS is needed. Fortuately many of the tractors pulling the large planters using Seed Command will have some type of automated steering which requires these higher end GPS's anyway. Usually the Insight can be run off of this same GPS.
