central kansas reno county | Congratulations. I did the same thing with my son and daughter. Coached my sons team in bball from 1st grade through 6th grade. Had lots of fun but boy can kids be hard to coach these days. I new how to play the game and the fundamentals but getting the kids to do that can be a hard task
Sometimes running the lines does change their minds a bit.
I also coached my daughters bball in 5th and 6th grade. Girls are a different animal to coach too. I remember about the 3rs practice we was doing our conditioning and I looked down at the line and half my girls where gone. They just left practice pretty much said I don't need to run. Well ok. Next practice we talked about that and then I had probably half of them crying. Now mind you I wasn't hard on them. Just wanted them to work for it. That group is now 8th graders and my son is now a freshman and didn't play bball this year. Decided to wrestle.
I did enjoy it and I do miss it. I did help coach football fall of 23 when my son was an 8th grader cause they needed another person. But I have told my wife that I have officially retired from coaching. Lol. She doesn't believe me though.
When you have been down on the sidelines coaching those kids it's hard to watch from the stand and not help them. I wouldn't change it for the world though. |
