Here's a list of 2000 Intl trucks like bincitybandits. Not too pricey, probably couldn't find many diesel pickups for the same price that can carry everything he has. Plus you have the option of a pintle hitch or hauling heavy implements. There are days it'd be nice to have a dedicated service truck, but we've gotten by for years with just tools in 5 gal pails in the pickup. Usually if we can limp it home to the shop, we do.
