East of Broken Bow | Had a relative that worked in the motorpool in the military for a while.
If a bolt fell of a Jeep, they were not allowed to go buy a $1 bolt to replace it. They had to go through full military procurement channels and buy a $15 bolt, that was identical to the $1 bolt you could have gotten at Ace.
I realize that many things are specialized and you don't want to skimp on quality, but something as simple as a grade 5 bolt had to go through so many different channels and middlemen that it probably actually did wind up costing $15. Makes Fastenal seem like a bargain in comparison. | |
