Subject: critical growth stages in corn and beans

Good day,
I've been hearing the term 'critical growth stages' lately, in discussions, often referring to crop protection and such. Could someone explain to me which stages these are in corn and beans, and why they are critical? The idea makes sense to me, but I don't have a handle on which growth stage this is, and why it's important.
Thanks.

First would be when they go from using seed energy to photosynthetic energy. The next would be when they move from vegetative growth to reproductive from vegetative stages. Lastly would be when they move from pollination to seed formation and fill.

Changing stages put stress on the plant. So adequate nutrients are needed to make sure there is no undo added stress.

Reducing stress of chemistry application at certain timings probably plays a part of that also.

I’m trying to learn more on that myself.

I tell customers to really understand the important initiation periods, especially in corn. The nachurs slide has a lot of info on it to digest.

Still trying to get better at this.

But tell me how at tassle a stimulant, sugar and potassium phosphite made 10-13 bushel. How? Kernel count was already made at that point.
How much NPK does it take to make 13 bushel? I applied 0 NPK, the stimulant can claim to help the plant get NPK, and we proved it can with an earlier application and soil test.

Same thing at V5. Micros, stimulant, sugars, acids, but no N,P and a quart of K made 5-7 bu.

Probably by offsetting your Peak demand. You may uptake enough in the long term but on a peak uptake day you could be short and the foliar pass is enough to get around that.

When my wife was pregnant the Dr had her take folate and iron. Where the pills her only source? No, but because of the stage of life her body was in they wanted to make sure she had enough and those were the critical nutrients needed for growing a healthy baby, even though we're made up of protein, calcium carbon, etc.

Kind of different but kind of the same, it just takes a few grams of caffeine to get more productivity out of a person. Not many mL of ludalice to get a 1 ton cow in heat..
Similarly it doesn't take much CBD, THC, heroine, or aspirin to have an effect.
Basically, plants are living systems just like us, and a little of a certain thing can have a big impact if administered at the right time.
