this is probably a matter of post engineering opinion. I find varying results of peoples opinions on whether or not is was a cold start aid or a pollution control device. Highly advanced ignition is not going to start well. Look at pulling motors, you would think the compression ratio's they're running they could start at -50 without any help, but instead it takes 4 cans of either at 70* to get em warm enough to stay running on their own.
