Lots of interesting answers but I don't believe one person mention the improvement in the newer engines over the years, especially the pickup engines.
Had GM 6.2 in the 80s, avg starting
Gm 6.5 slightly better
Duramax. Will start at -20 with 15-40 oil
Any Ford or Dodge will do the same thing
And it has very little to do with starters, batteries, or oil. They just plain start.
They have come a long ways in that area.


Yep on common rail engines firing off in the cold. Waaaay better than some of that older stuff!
