Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | One thing that has not been discussed is the Raven control valve type which has various options.
Originally there was only the Raven “Standard” Control valve. This valve used only two wires which were/are Green and Yellow. It operates as follows: When both wires are in “float”, the motor does not run since the circuit is incomplete. When one wire is at 12V and the other is at ground, the motor runs but the ball or butterfly moves quite slowly. It should take 8 seconds to go from fully open to fully closed and vice versa. This is due to a gearbox with several sets of gears. This allows the motor to develop enough torque and to move quite slowly so as not to prevent the rate from changing “too” fast. The Raven controller must be set to “standard” for the system to work properly with that valve.
Later Raven creted a “Fast” valve. This control valve was NOT geared down as much. This meant several things. The corrective shots of +/- or -/+ had to be very short. Also the motor didn’t have much torque without the gearing so another pair of wires that were always 12V and ground were added. The Raven had to be set to “Fast or Fast Close” for that combination.
Later still PWM control valve’s came along. The controller needed to be set to “PWM” for that combination to work.
In other words, the first question is: What style of the choices above do you have?
I’m fairly confident that with some testing this could be determined. Then the wiring and valve type could be determined. This can be difficult without having the valve in front of me. I am currently on vacation in sunny Florida. Good luck. |
