Saw one in an apartment when I was in Venezuela a few years back.  I didn't know what it was - originally, I thought it was a urinal.  (Hey I didn't know.)  So, I asked, and was informed what it was. It seems they are popular in the middle and upper income homes in Venezuela.  Guy told me they are popular in Europe, and Venezuela (maybe all of South America?) gets a fair amount of influence from Europe.

Other thing that really struck me down there........  they end their conversations - at least their phone conversations - with "Chow!"  "

Chow???  How is that spanish? "  I asked.

"Well, it's not.  It was picked up from the Italian language." I was told.  Another one of those European influences.
