Education is not a waste, so don't regret it.  A college degree means you are capable of learning how to do a job; if the job is different than you degree it might take longer to learn how to do the job, but you have proven you are capable of learning how to do it.

Mean while $30k is a chunk of change but it could be worse.  You could have bought an out of warranty powerstroke and get the joy of installing a new engine to the tune of $30k of been farming and get to put a new engine in a combine for $60k.
