Malta, Illinois | Good luck with that. The cost to produce many of those things in the US is significantly higher than it is in Mexico. Canada probably not so much. People have this romantic idea that a bunch of tariffs on a bunch of countries is going to bring manufacturing back to the US. The US has become accustomed to having so much cheap and disposable crap that it will never work. A shirt that is being produced in Malaysia or some other third world country and costs $17 at Walmart would likely cost $60 if produced in the US. People think cell phones and computers cost a lot now. How about cell phones and laptops that cost $3000 instead of $800? Just who is going to work in all of these factories and produce all of this stuff? Presumably there won't be any legal or illegal immigrants to work at these jobs. Unemployment is pretty low now and the birthrate in this country is declining. Get all of these lazy welfare deadbeats off of their butts and put them to work in factories!! When you take a look at the deadbeats who are on welfare and how they look and act, how do you propose to turn them into employable and reliable people who would have the brains or skills to work in a factory? People on this board talk a big story about America first but are also the first to talk about buying blue jeans and motor oil at Walmart instead of a local or somewhat local store with higher prices. | |
