NW IL | That sounds like a helpful tool. Most places list characteristics on a scale of 1-10. But that's really only helpful when comparing hybrids in a brand. It would be nice to see a scale that can be applied across brands.
Looking at some of your other comments it looks like there are a lot of variables being looked at. I wonder about an online menu or form that farmers could fill out that describes their operation then having the tool list some hybrid ideas.
Probably along side that I wouldn't mind seeing top 5 in each category that's selected, just for comparison. And I would make all categories optional. Maybe I just want tar spot resistance and droyght tolerant and don't care about the rest.
I'm thinking you could have a list of field prep practices:
No till, Plow, disc rip, cover crop (maybe even type), etc.
N source
Manure, dairy, hog, poultry, fall anhydrous or spring, 28, side dress or not
Maybe soil stuff
General type like light, heavy, loam
pH, maybe even P and K levels or fertilizer plans. CEC.
Wet or dry tolerant
Maybe even spring, mid season, or end of season.
Diseases, etc.
Emergence rating.
Flex, by ear #, size, or kernel depth.
GDU total and to tassel..
.... there's really a ton of options to sift through, but at least for me I find that information valuable when looking at hybrids.
