There's a 5EK and 6TS on Facebook marketplace in southern MT for $4k each. But I assume by "later 3406E" you mean 1LW or 2WS or 5DS?...

There was a 6NZ as well for $4500 but it looks like it sold.

Personally, I would be tempted by a new content longblock from Cat if your block and/or crank is bad. Blocks and cranks are likely going to have millions of miles on them at this point. Machine work isn't cheap. Fatigue happens and metal has a memory. Might be worth a call to your Cat dealer.

A brand new complete 3406E 15.8L (C16) would really tickle my fancy but rumor has it that it costs over $70K to get one from Cat.
