RR Valley, ND; MN native | Started some statins last summer. Age 58. A low dose of a strong one vs high dose of weak one was what Dr told me. He likes to do that first.
Looking at past test numbers, they were the same several years ago as last summer so I asked what changed as they did not mention this or have concerns at that time.
The answer was they put the numbers into a calculation:
Age
Weight/BMI
Blood Pressure
Cholesterol
The output is some probability you could have a heart attack or stroke in the next 10yrs. If its over (I think it was 9-10%) then they want to work on lowering the inputs.
Not much can be done about age!! But those others can be managed. | |
