Our boys call my office desk keyboard the 'butter keyboard' becuase I have worn the keys slick in 12+ years of typing.
Might consider looking on eBay for a used replacement keyboard for your laptop. Some machines the entire keyboard assembly is easy to replace, and if not the individual keys usually just pop into place.
