My theory is that when you get to certain point (population x row spacing x speed), beans are going by fast enough and close enough together that it sees multiple seeds as being "one".
I agree. Even if you didn't have a sensor on each row the seeds passing by each sensor that you did use would be less and they might be able to "keep up".
