#1) You weren't drilling rye in 30" rows. If you're in 10" rows you have 3x as many sensors counting seeds/acre. If you are on 7.5" you have 4x as many sensors.
#2) Were you really planting 600k of rye seed or were you planting ~700k or more?
My theory is that when you get to certain point (population x row spacing x speed), beans are going by fast enough and close enough together that it sees multiple seeds as being "one".
