Northern Nebraska | Not necessarily. There are many factors in test weight that don't effect yield. Seed shape, seed coat slickness, and seed size.
Just look at popcorn and field corn. Popcorn is small uniform in shape and size, very dense and smooth as glass. Popcorn regularly has test weights far exceeding 65. Popcorn yields far less for the same amount of kernels because the total weight per seed is so low compared to field corn.
I completely understand how someone can get hung up on this. A far better thing to look at would be weight per 1000 seeds.
Also you don't get paid volumetric you are paid off weight and it's divided by an arbitrary number in soybeans case 60 pounds. It has nothing to do volume. | |
