I also have quite a bit of soil like that. I have put one ton of gypsum on several acres the last three years. It has sure helped the farm. Gypsum is calcium sulfate which you probably know, so that is the calcium you speak of.
I don't see how lime would help with pH or extra magnesium. I did one year put on a ton of lime and didn't see any response.
the cost of gypsum here is about $30 per ton and about $15 to haul it 25 miles.
