Subject: RE: Rebuilding tigermate II shanks

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
My used Tigermate has likely seen more use than yours. I have no idea how many acres it has covered by the previous owner(s).

I found that many of my sleeves that go over the long spring bolt show wear also. I believe flipping them over as you suggest will be fine.

As mentioned above my wear is in the holes in the bracket that attach to the frame. The bolts apparently have been turning and have caused the holes to become egg-shaped. Sounds as if yours are in good shape in that respect. I do have some of the wear in the cast piece that goes inside each spring as shown in your picture. My feeling is although there is obvious wear, it is not going to wear through anytime soon. Possibly I should purchase those pieces at this time.

I found that the assemblies were changed somewhat at some point in time. The bolt size was increased. I don't believe new "old style" parts are available. The CIH solution is to purchase an entire new style assembly which includes parts I really don't need. When I get done, I should have a revitalized "old style" machine.

I feel that I should "clean up" some of the areas where turning should take place. Possibly some type of initial lubrication might help but then again that might be wasted effort.

I'll try to post some pictures when we reassemble.
