The anti American sentiment is because it looks highly likely that any free trade agreement between the UK and the USA will see UK farmers getting absolutely battered because they can't compete on price.

British agriculture is absolutely on its arse right now. The subsidies farmers have been limited to £8,000, so a lot of farms are hundreds of thousands of pounds down per year. Then the inheritance tax laws are due to change, so anything over (I think) £1,000,000 will be subject to inheritance tax @ 20%. With land at over £10,000/acre and you all are aware of the price of equipment and know what commodities are worth, a million quid goes nowhere.

Then as a final kick in the plums, we have a tax called National Insurance, employees pay some and employers pay some. The employers national insurance contributions have increase and there's been an increase in capital gains tax too. I have a friend working for Bunning, the muck spreader manufacturer, the NI increase will add £200,000 to the wage bill off their bottom line. Another friend works for an Agco dealer, their NI and minimum wage increases will cost £750,000.

We're in trouble.

Thank you for the info. I realize that costs are higher in Europe compared to most of the world. I am a dairy farmer. It amazes me that many European countries still lead the world in milk exports despite their higher cost to produce milk:

S.No. Top 10 Milk Exporting Countries Export Value
1 New Zealand US$ 6.8 Billion
2 Germany US$ 3.5 Billion
3 United States US$ 2.9 Billion
4 Netherlands US$ 2.6 Billion
5 Belgium US$ 2.31 Billion
6 France US$ 2.03 Billion
7 Australia US$ 1.14 Billion
8 Poland US$ 1.08 Billion
9 Ireland US$ 1.07 Billion
10 United Kingdom US$ 0.84 Billion

I was not aware of the National Insurance tax. I did a quick google search and read. Looks like the money from this tax is earmarked for welfare ("social security") only: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Insurance#:~:text=National%20...(NI)%20is%20a,for%20workers%20and%20their%20families.
