If staying angus, $5k should get a pretty good bull. Everyone and their brother sells angus bulls= best bang for your buck.

If they sire 100 calves that’s $50/hd bull cost with 0 residual. Of course have to figure the bulls other expenses.

Can you AI for $50/hd by the time you figure labor and equipment cost? And you still need a clean up bull.

I don’t see where AI makes much sense for an average commercial herd.


$5000 bull is gonna breed 200 animals in one cycle?


Be a multi million dollar bull if he could.

If a bull can last 3 years that’s 33 calves a year average to sire. Maybe on the high side but not out of the range of possibility. That’s also assuming he’s worth $0 (dead) at the end. If he’s worth $2k as a cull bull that significantly helps numbers out. He also might only make 6 months.

Just seems like it’s about $50/hd+ to breed no matter how you do it if you’re honest with all costs associated.
