On heifers 50-60% is a good average. We seem to get better averages on our cows. Once you get them synced up you can end up with a nice even set of calves. We pregged 156 Saturday and 83 yesterday. It was a lot nicer last weekend when we did the first group. We ended up with 98 % bred.
Your set up looks almost exactly like mine. I have a 107 Arrowquip and a Linn Adjustable alleyway. Only thing I am missing is the roof.
Hi Darren, that lean-to roof has really been nice. Keeps everything dry and shaded at least. Somehow I'm always in the alley pushing up cattle, so it doesn't help me much, but the vet sure appreciates it! The only thing better would be to have everything inside a barn with heat. We thought about enclosing the lean-to somehow, but it's nice for everyone to see each other in the pens if for no other reason than safety.
I've had that alley since my dad died in 2004. The hydraulic chute is a year or two old. Best thing we ever did.
