Subject: RE: Eggs CAGE-FREE MANDATE IS THE PROBLEM!

Sioux County, NWIA
PARbrown - 1/20/2025 11:58

The CA mandate of 100% of eggs be produced in Cage-Free buildings went into effect on January 1, 2025. That's the main reason for the cost of eggs over the last few years. As that crazy CA mandate went national wide and all the corporate egg companies had to re-build or re-invest in all new production buildings. Cage-free is far less efficient and actually a worst environment for the birds. More death loss, more feed needed, more square feet needed, more stress on the birds. All these factors raise the cost of eggs.

Cage free may be a factor, yes, but the more immediate reason is almost certainly widespread and persistent bird flu. I know of a large egg layer in this area that has depopulated twice in 2024.
