We did heated pads on the north and east side when we put up a new shop a couple years ago. Due to the height of the building those pads are shaded pretty much all the time during the winter(north side all the time). They have their own loop, just hit a button and they kick on for 24 hours. So far, so good. Wish we'd have done the entire north side.
